Work of Geesje Stroo
In Geesje Stroo’s work we always encounter the exciting contrast between organic and geometric forms and also the contradictions between space and movement and structure and restriction. She is fascinated by the challenge of allowing the unknown; allowing the work to emerge from something you don’t know in advance.
Both the artist himself and the viewer experience the work as meditation in action. It is philosophical in nature; she asks herself and the viewer questions, “What does it mean that we are part of a great evolutionary development process?” “Who are we really and how will we continue to shape the future itself?”
Her strength lies in finding the balance between creativity, philosophy and spirituality, which are recurring themes in her work.
Geesje Stroo took the TEHATEX art course at De Witte Lelie in Amsterdam and has traveled extensively in her life and lived frequently abroad, including seven years in the U.S. where she studied with Andrew Cohen. In addition to her work as an artist, she works as an Arts and Culture teacher in Secondary Education.
